Danny Jordaan Reveals Banyana Banyana Players’ Rewards After Winning WAFCON
Following a mettlesome performance of Banyana Banyana throughout the whole WAFCON tournament, it has been revealed how much girls are going to be rewarded. Danny Jordaan announced initially in June that should they win the tournament, each player would bag R400 000 but has confirmed that the money will be added.
Banyana will touch down in South Africa on Tuesday before they start preparing for the 2023 Women’s FIFA World Cup that will be held in Australia and New Zealand.
“We’re going to honour the commitment and even put more than that. Don’t worry about that, I spoke to the captain, when we get back [home] we’ll sit down and sort it out,” Jordaan said after the final in Rabat.
“They deserve the R400 000 each and more, and we are going to work hard to give them even more. They’ve really delivered for the nation, and we are proud and must celebrate this achievement. We have an excellent team and everybody’s agreed to that.”

“They kept their best performances for the first match against Nigeria and now, tonight, against Morocco. I think there’s no doubt here that the best team won on the night,” Jordaan added.
“Congratulations to Banyana, Desiree Ellis, the captain Refiloe Jane, and many of the players who really showed in this tournament that they are the supreme champions and team on the continent.
“Of course, we are tremendously happy and proud. As we go home and take the trophy with the best team and the best coach on the African continent home, these are all special achievements and it’s a great moment in the history of women’s football in our country.”

The cherry on top in this Banyana’s achievement was that Hilda Magaia whose brace secured the WAFCON title for South Africa was named the Woman of the Match and finished as joint top scorer at the 2022 edition with three goals alongside Moroccan captain Ghizlane Chebbak and Nigeria’s Rasheedat Ajibade.
