Denis Towering Over The Competition

The Ugandan born goalkeeper has all but cemented his name into the Brazilian history books with his numerous accolades and bulging medal cabinet.

Standing at 1.8m may have made being the last line of defence an easy choice when it came time to choose a position for Denis, but he is no stranger to hard work! It was this hard work that in 2016 landed Denis at number 10 on the Top 10 Ranked Goalkeepers in 2016 by IFFHS, beating out the likes of Petr Cech and Marc-André ter Stegen.

2016 was a momentous year for both Denis and the Club which saw ‘Africa’s Number 1′ pick up the award for 2016 African Inter-Club Player of the Year (Based in Africa), the accolades did not just stop there for the club or Denis, Mamelodi Sundowns were awarded the African Inter-Club Team of the Year and Coach Pitso walked away with CAF Coach of the Year.

This all came on the back of the Club winning the 2016 CAF Champions league and being crowned the champions of the Absa Premiership.

The Ugandan goalkeeper is set to stay at the Brazilians for another 3 years with his contract only ending in 2023, here’s to many more memories and trophies to be won together!
