Desiree Ellis To Be Anointed with Highest South African Recognition! The head coach is set to be recognised for her work.
Banyana Banyana head coach Desiree Ellis will be bestowed with the highest form of recognition in South Africa. President Cyril Ramaphosa will anoint her with The Order of Ikhamanga, the highest National Order.
Ellis led Banyana Banyana to WAFCON glory in 2022, defeating Morocco. The national team is also set to play in their second consecutive FIFA Women’s World Cup this winter, hosted in Australia and New Zealand.
“I am super blessed but at the same time very emotional,” Ellis jubilantly told the SAFA media department.
“Football is a team sport, and this award is not about me but everyone who contributed to the success of Banyana Banyana, from the players, the technical staff as well as the backroom staff.
‘’This could not have been possible without the solid support from the Association, especially the President and his team.
“I am so happy because this is huge, getting this national honour is like getting a knighthood,” she spoke.
Last year, Ellis was the CAF Women’s Coach of the Year, for leading Banyana Banyana to WAFCON glory. Desiree Ellis To Be Anointed with Highest South African Recognition!
