Dikwena Gives Striker Shilongo A Week Off
Dikwena Gives Striker Shilongo A Week Off! Platinum Stars striker Benson Shilongo has been given a week off to focus on his studies.
The Nambian striker is currently in Windhoek, where he is writing exams. Shilongo is studying towards a BCom degree with Regent Business School.
“Education is very important so I am preparing for my future and life after football. I am studying towards a become degree. I am studying at Regent Business School. It’s a South African institution but they have a faculty in Nambia. I am writing three papers – Marketing management, Financial management and Entrepreneurship. Hopefully I will complete next year,” said Shilongo.
Shilongo says it’s not easy to juggle between football and studying as time management becomes very critical.
“It’s a challenge to juggle football and school. Sometimes you are tired from work. It’s a just a matter of finding the right balance between football and school. Once you get opportunity to study you have to take it. You have to take it step by step and eventually you will complete. We are not growing any younger so you will need something to fall back on,” said Shilongo.
Shilongo has not featured prominently for Dikwena this season. The forward attributes his lack of action to injury and competition in Roger De Sa’s team.
It’s been a tough time. I started the season and I got a groin injury in the first game. It hampered my progress because it took me nearly seven weeks to heal. When I healed it was difficult to get back into the team. The coach has assured me that my chance will come so I just need to keep on working hard. Coming from injury is not easy to just walk into the team. I did well last season so I want to continue but I am waiting for my opportunity. The team hasn’t done well but we have been coming right lately. It’s just a matter of getting maximum points. We have to graft and get the results,” said Shilongo
Dikwena’s next match is at home against Bloemfontein Celtic on November 22nd.
