The 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup began on the 20th of July 2023. SAFA President Danny Jordaan was invited to watch the opening game.
Co-hosts New Zealand will kicked off against Norway in Auckland, to start the tournament. After spectating this encounter, Jordaan will travel to meet up with the Banyana Banyana squad in Wellington.
“This presents a unique opportunity to promote the interests of South Africa,” Jordaan told the SAFA media.
“FIFA is also organising a workshop for all of the bidding countries in Sydney, Australia on the 8 August 2023. The bidding nations will get an opportunity to engage directly with global delegates and the FIFA leadership in Australia.”
South Africa is one of three parties to bid for hosting the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup. This will provide the SAFA delegates an opportunity to further their interests.
Jordaan will also be able to speak with FIFA delegates regarding the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification process on behalf of Bafana Bafana.
“Our participation in the Africa Cup of Nations next year will also be a key indicator as we continue with the qualification matches that will only be finalized in 2025.
“The 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification will provide each participating country with a series of 10 matches, five home and five away. It’s the highest number of matches in the history of FIFA qualifiers.” He concluded.
