Dr Irvin Khoza Believes That the DSTV Compact Cup Brings Innovation! The PSL and DSTV yesterday announced the introduction of a brand-new competition.
This tournament is called the DSTV Compact Cup-Viewer’s Choice and will commence next January. PSL chairman Dr Irvin Khoza believes that this tournament will bring vibrancy to local football.
This tournament will see supporters and viewers vote for the starting XI of their favourite teams. A format which is also used in the annual Carling Black Label Cup.
The competition will separate inland and coastal teams and two separate groups each.
“This is yet another amazing innovation.” Khoza announced yesterday.
“It will be refreshing that the responsibility of team selection, technical team and name choice will reside with the fans. The roles are now reversed, and we will come out better informed about the fans’ understanding of player chemistry through their team selections.” He spoke.
The chairman did not however touch on the subject of Kaizer Chiefs in his media briefing. This is after the Phefeni Glamour Boys did not honour two consecutive DSTV Premiership fixtures.
This is after their squad had suffered from the new Covid-19 variant. They saw 36 club members test positive for the coronavirus.
As a result, they missed matches against Golden Arrows and Cape Town City. They took to the field on Sunday though against Sekhukhune United.
The club was expected to face some sort of punishment for missing those two matches. Dr Irvin Khoza Believes That the DSTV Compact Cup Brings Innovation!
