Durban City FC Targets Experienced Talent with Signing of Ghanaian Goalkeeper Fredrick Asare

Newly-promoted Betway Premiership side Durban City FC has kicked off their recruitment drive, setting sights on experienced players to boost their squad ahead of their maiden season in South Africa’s top tier.

Reliable sources close to the club have revealed to Soccer Laduma that Durban City is on the verge of securing Ghana international goalkeeper Fredrick Asare from Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko as their first major signing of the transfer window.

“The deal is as good as done. All arrangements for Asare to travel to Durban have been finalised. The club is looking to bring more experience to their goalkeeping department, and Asare fits the bill. He is a quality keeper who will create healthy competition among the goalkeepers,” said an insider familiar with the negotiations.

The 26-year-old shot-stopper, a former Ghana U20 international, has cemented his place as Asante Kotoko’s first-choice goalkeeper over the past two seasons. His experience in high-pressure matches and leadership qualities are expected to provide a solid foundation at the back for the newly promoted KwaZulu-Natal outfit.

In parallel, another source confirmed that Durban City’s pre-season preparations will officially begin next week, coinciding with the appointment of a new head coach. Player assessments are set to start soon after, with the squad shape taking form.

“From Monday next week, the new coach will be on board and start evaluating players. But the signing of the Ghanaian goalkeeper is already sorted,” the source revealed.

Earlier reports linked experienced coach Gavin Hunt with the Durban City managerial position, indicating the club’s ambition to bring seasoned leadership to navigate the challenges of the Premiership.

Durban City chairman Farouk Kadodia responded cautiously when approached for comment: “Yes, Asare is coming here but we can’t talk about signings right now. When the time is right, you will know.”

The expected acquisition of Fredrick Asare marks a decisive step in Durban City’s bid to build a competitive squad capable of not just surviving but thriving in South Africa’s elite league. As pre-season training gets underway, fans can anticipate further reinforcements as the club aims to establish a strong foundation for sustained success.
