Mamelodi Sundowns have won the DSTV Premiership for five consecutive seasons, and they are favourites to win the league yet again. Dylan Kerr has called on all teams to challenge the might Brazilians.

Swallows FC survived relegation by the skin of their teeth last season. They made it by surviving through the promotion playoffs.

Kerr has sworn that despite being a small team, they will give their best to challenge the champions.

Swallows FC suffered a dramatic 3-2 loss at home to AmaZulu in the DSTV Premiership on Friday night. Former coach Brandon Truter was able to get one over their former employers.

“I’ve been fortunate to be entrusted by the chairman with his PSL status, now somebody has got to challenge Sundowns,” Kerr said.

“We’ve got to give Sundowns a game. That’s not just Swallows, it’s every club.

“It’s fantastic what they have done at Sundowns where for five seasons they’ve been winning the league.

“I can say we can challenge Sundowns, but that’s me, I’m not kicking the ball, I’m not putting the boots on, I’m not putting the jersey on.

“All I can do is make the players believe that they can challenge for the league.

“By doing that you got to be consistent.

“We are finished signing players,” Kerr added.

“Football dynamics have changed now in South Africa. Teams are now looking after their financial affairs.

“Players have got to understand they’ve got an important role to play in football now.

“It’s not like in previous years where teams could have 30, 40 players, they could sign whoever they want.

“Players know their responsibility is the football club, the football club who pays their salaries.

“Players are now in control of the club’s destiny.” He added.
