Egypt to Host 2025 U20 Africa Cup of Nations After Ivory Coast Withdrawal

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially announced Egypt as the new host for the 2025 U20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), following Ivory Coast’s unexpected withdrawal. The announcement comes just 30 days before the tournament was due to begin, leaving CAF with the challenging task of finding a replacement host at the last minute.
The Ivorian Football Federation (FIF) made the decision public on Tuesday, citing unforeseen circumstances that made it impossible for the country to host the prestigious youth tournament. As a result, CAF had to seek out an alternative quickly to ensure the tournament would proceed as scheduled.
Egypt, which had previously submitted a bid to host the event, has now been granted the hosting rights. This decision comes after several days of deliberations and reassessment. The TotalEnergies CAF U20 Africa Cup of Nations 2025 will take place from April 27 to May 18, 2025.
CAF confirmed the new arrangements in a statement: “The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has awarded the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) and the Egyptian government the hosting rights for the TotalEnergies CAF U20 Africa Cup of Nations 2025.”
The tournament, which will feature the continent’s top under-20 football teams, is expected to showcase some of the brightest young talents in African football. The opening match will take place on Sunday, April 27, 2025, with the final scheduled for May 18, 2025.
CAF’s swift decision comes as a relief to many, ensuring that the tournament will still take place without major delays. With Egypt now taking the reins as host, the focus will shift to the exciting football action that the tournament promises to deliver.
