Elias Mokwana Attracts New European Interest After Title-Winning Season in Tunisia

The star of South African international winger Elias Mokwana continues to rise rapidly on the African and global football stage, with fresh European interest reportedly emerging following a successful debut season with Tunisian giants Esperance de Tunis.

Mokwana, who joined Esperance last year, played a key role in the club’s championship-winning campaign in the Tunisian Ligue Professionnelle 1. His consistent performances and ability to adapt to the demanding North African football environment have drawn the attention of scouts from across Europe, and now a new suitor from Turkey has reportedly joined the race for his signature.

Sources close to the player have confirmed that Mokwana’s recent title triumph has sparked renewed interest abroad. While Belgian and Dutch clubs were initially tracking the Bafana Bafana winger, the latest reports indicate that a Turkish club is now actively monitoring him and preparing a possible offer.

“Yes, there is new interest from Europe. It’s actually believed to be a Turkish team. You remember there were Belgian and Dutch clubs who were first interested in him. But now there is this Turkish club that had their scouts who have been following his progress and they are apparently looking at a deal as soon as possible,” a source revealed.

However, despite the interest, Esperance are not keen to part ways with the 25-year-old just yet. The Tunisian champions reportedly view Mokwana as a crucial part of their plans for the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup and are determined to retain him until at least after the prestigious tournament.

“There are two stumbling blocks to this possible move. One is the Club World Cup. Esperance want him to be there and only negotiate a possible move after that. Secondly it’s the fact that the club wants to at least keep him for one more season before they can let him go. So let’s wait for the FIFA Club World Cup and we talk after that,” added another insider.

Since arriving at Esperance, Mokwana has become a first-team regular, showcasing his flair, pace, and tactical intelligence. His ability to influence games from wide positions has not only helped his club clinch domestic honours but also bolstered his standing in the South African national team setup.

This latest development highlights Mokwana’s growing international reputation and the success of his bold move to North African football. For the winger, interest from Turkey and beyond signals a potentially game-changing opportunity to step into one of Europe’s competitive leagues. It also reinforces the view that North African clubs can serve as viable springboards for South African talents aiming to break into Europe.

As the FIFA Club World Cup draws nearer, Mokwana’s performances on the global stage will be closely watched. Should he continue to impress, his market value could rise significantly, expanding the list of potential European destinations. For now, all eyes are on his next chapter with Esperance — and possibly beyond.
