Cape Town City drew 0-0 at home to Kaizer Chiefs in the DSTV Premiership. Head coach Eric Tinkler accepted that neither team deserved all three points.
The match was a sight for sore eyes, as not many opportunities were created throughout the encounter. Instead, it was a very turbid and cagey affair.
“Tough game, it was a very tactical game from both teams,” Tinkler told SuperSport TV.
“I think it was pretty evident that both teams didn’t want to lose this match. Very well organised, structurally defensively.
“They worked very hard defensively and both teams didn’t really give much in terms of spaces, especially in that final third. Both teams struggled to create anything in that final third.
“First half we struggled a little bit with the diagonal, overloading us down the channels.
“So, we opted second half to go with the back three. To do the same that they were doing with our formation.
“Making it a little bit easier in terms of our pressing strategy. Going with the back five so we could put pressure on Rama.
“And Frosler because they were the ones that were hurting us in the first half.
“Like I said not much in the final phase. I don’t think keepers had to make major saves.
“They had to come out and collect and I thought you know a bit of stalemate.
“I thought our first touch today was very, very poor. I thought there were moments we defended very, very well and on the transitions, we could hurt them, but our first touch let us down.
“We lost it, we gave it back to them or we needed to take the first touch, the second touch and then that whole delay prevents you breaking on the transition, allowing them to recover and we spoke about that at half-time.
“It seemed to continue until the death. A good ball played in by Thato Mokeke behind the defence, Terrence’s first touch a little bit better, whips in the cross you might get a chance, but you take a touch a second touch and he’s then closed down and the opportunity is lost.
“So ja we had one or two situations, but a fair result is a draw.” He spoke.
