Ernst Middendorp Admits They Were Lucky to Win Against Mamelodi Sundowns! The Team of Choice got the better of Masandawana over the weekend.

Maritzburg United won 2-1 at home to Mamelodi Sundowns in the DSTV Premiership on Saturday night. Head coach Ernst Middendorp believes that luck was on their side in the win.

The visitors took the lead in quintessential fashion through Peter Shalulile. The hosts equalised through a header from Alfred Ndengane.

Striker Amadou Soukouna scored the winner from the penalty spot in injury time.

“We definitely had in a number of moments the luck on our side, there’s no doubt about it.” Middendorp told SuperSport TV after the win.

“You have to be realistic, but you need if you want to be successful at the end of the day a hard-working individual performance.

“Hard working team performance in some moments to do the right stuff and supporting each other but as I said it was the hard work. It was really a number of moments where I thought we could’ve conceded the second or third goal.

“But it’s something what you experience, and we had a lot of games meanwhile in this run of the season, 94 minutes, 95 minutes, 88 minutes, 85 minutes where it went in the other direction and good as I always say it will be balanced during the season.”

“We’ re very realistic and if I say we, of course it’s my job as a head coach to guide it into the right direction, in the right moment and I hope we can have enough points at the end of the day as soon as possible to keep the PSL status,” he concluded.
