The Dube Birds were able to hold The Brazilians to a stalemate at the halftime break, where they created a few chances of their own in the first stanza. However, two quickfire second half goals from Neo Maema and Themba Zwane gave the hosts all 3 points.
“I said it before the game, its one day less recovery, you could see it. And then in the 60th, 65th minute its always something where the details [are important],” Ernst Middendorp told Mpho Maboi of SuperSport TV.
“You’re not pressuring the ball anymore, you lose a little bit of the concept, all of a sudden you get pulled out, you don’t have reference points with the ball and their own teammates. Its good, I think we had some possibilities, some free kick opportunity in the first half, Musonda probably could have put it in.
“We had a crossbar shot; we had another possibility. But the basics, the fundamentals, was our defensive concepts, with a very clear understanding of not opening up the spaces.
“But you could see that our concentration got a little bit loose after 60 minutes and it happens [conceding 2 goals] and you are basically not coming back.” The German concluded.
