Maritzburg United are on the back of a stunning 5-1 victory over the weekend. They trounced Chippa United at the Harry Gwala Stadium on Saturday.

Maritzburg United have collected 11 points from their last 5 in the DSTV Premiership. They will now have to wait until 23 April before they play another competitive game again.

This is because their next 2 scheduled games are against Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns who are involved in CAF Competitions. They will play Baroka FC at the Thoyandou Stadium on the 23rd of April.

Coach Ernst Middendorp will be looking to maintain their strong momentum during this break.

“We will use the time, until the 23rd of April, to keep the momentum going,” Coach Ernst Middendorp said to the club website.

“We have to do our job and find the right way to periodise it and get everybody on the same boat.”

The Team of Choice will be looking to build on their stunning 5-1 win over Chippa United.

“It’s a huge stat, following this away win in Nelspruit against TS Galaxy some weeks ago,” Coach Ernst stated.

Middendorp was unhappy with how his team started their game against Chippa United. He was, however, happy with the way in which his players turned the result around.

“We had a certain problem in the first 18, 20 minutes, then we conceded, zero-one,” Middendorp explained.

“We were not really able to bring our approach. But all of a sudden after we were down, we started to work with the first pressing line, and the second pressing line, forcing the opponents to make mistakes.

“The attack was absolutely good, very effective and the remaining 70 minutes we scored five, and it could have been one or two more.

“We are still making mistakes, we still have space for improvement,” he cautioned. “Some players are not where we want to have them, some have been battling with injury.”
