Euro 2020 Final Preview; Italy vs. England! The European Championships will come to a close on Sunday night.

Italy will play England in the Euro 2020 final at Wembley Stadium. This match will see the best two defences of the tournament go head to head.

The last time Italy played England was at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. The Italians defeated England 2-1 in their first group game of the tournament.

Both teams have gone through extreme changes since that tournament.

Italy has seen many managers come and go since then. They have also seen veteran players Andrea Pirlo and Gianluigi Buffon retire from the international game.

Head coach Roberto Mancini has rejuvenated that ageing squad. Young players like Gianluigi Donnarumma, Nicolo Barella and Federico Chiesa have all been incredible for that squad.

“A victory would be a great injection of joy and confidence for the Italian people.” Defender Leonardo Bonucci told the press ahead of the final.

“Since Mancini joined the national team, I immediately understood that we would restart quickly, after the disappointment of missing the 2018 World Cup. He worked on our heads, he restored our self-esteem, plus he added quality and that makes you win.” He added.

England has also undergone massive reconstruction since they last met in 2014. Only the likes of Raheem Sterling and Jordan Henderson remain in that team.

Gareth Southgate has bumped into a sudden pool of young English talent at his disposal. He gets to work with the likes of Harry Kane, Raheem Sterling and Mason Mount.

“Without a doubt, we loved the moment that we were able to share with our fans on the pitch, and, of course, the dressing room after was really bouncing. And I think the bus journey home was the same. Music was playing but also, at the back of our minds for everybody was, ‘We’ve not got to where we want to yet’.” England head coach Gareth Southgate said.
