Solskjaer Discusses Transfer Plans After Sevilla 2 – Man Utd 1 In Europa League
Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer discussed the summer transfer window during his post-match press conference in Cologne, Germany, on Sunday evening.The boss sat down in front of journalists after our 2-1 defeat to Sevilla in the UEFA Europa League semi-final at Stadion Koln, where the Reds controlled the game but unfortunately suffered a 2-1 defeat.
United registered 20 shots at goals during the 90 minutes and were particularly dominant at the start of the second half, but could not find an all-important second goal to secure our progress to the final.
Losing is a huge disappointment, of course, but the team’s progress has been clear to see this season and Solskjaer is confident about taking further steps forward with this young group in 2020/21.
A huge part of that improvement will come from hard work with the players at the Aon Training Complex, where our coaching staff achieved fantastic results throughout the campaign.
The transfer window also provides an opportunity to strengthen the squad if the right players are available.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the summer window started on 27 July and it will be open for 10 weeks until 5 October.
A domestic-only window, during which Premier League clubs can only trade with those in the Football League, will run from 5 October to 17:00 BST on 16 October.
In the post-match press conference on Sunday, Ole was asked about making the right signings during that period of time.
“It’s going to be a strange summer,”
Solskjaer said. “We’ve only got a couple of weeks away from each other before we get going again. That’s going to be a mental challenge.
Of course, we’re going to keep pushing and keep demanding more of the players we have but still we’re looking to improve. It’s a strange one. The league starts very quickly but the market is open for so long. We’ve got to be smart and clever.”
When asked about signing players before the new season starts, Ole replied: “Well, I cannot say when or if transfers are going to be done. We’ll need to look at it and we’ll have to sit down.
“It’s a quick turnaround and we’ve got to be 100 per cent sure when we make those deals.”
