Gallery: RWC Opening Game in Cape Town, 1995

On 25 May 1995, the Springboks shocked the rugby world when they beat the defending champions, Australia, by 27-18 in the opening game of the 1995 Rugby World Cup at a packed Newlands in Cape Town.

Pieter Hendriks scored arguably his most famous try, rounding David Campese on the left wing, while the rest of the points belonged to Joel Stransky, who scored a try, added a conversion, slotted four penalty goals and landed a drop-goal.
