Former Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder George Lebese has joined American USL Championship side Colorado Springs Switchbacks who ply their trade in the second-tier of American football.

The 30-year-old attacker became a target for United Soccer League outfit, Colorado Springs Switchbacks, who have a South African head coach Alan Koch who was looking to bring him on board.

Switchbacks announced the signing of Lebese as they prepare for the new season which starts in March next year.

A statement from the club read, ” The Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC announced today that the club has signed George Lebese, pending USL Championship and USSF approval.”

“George is a player that we are incredibly excited about. He is in need of a fresh opportunity after many years of success in the South African Premier League. We look forward to supporting him and helping get his confidence back,” Koch said.

“When George is flowing, the team is flowing. He is going to be an integral part of our new-look team and he has the ability to unlock the opposition’s defense through his vision and passing ability.” added Koch.

“It’s a great honour and blessing to be given this opportunity to join the Switchbacks family. I can’t extend my sincere gratitude and above all, I just want to thank God for everything.” Lebese told the club’s official website.

Lebese had been desperate to play football again after enjoying bitter sweet journey with both Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns.

He won four major trophies with Amakhosi  and  two PSL titles with Masandawana but generally struggled for game time at Sundowns.
