Government Wants Soccer Stadiums to Incentivise People Get Vaccinated! The South African government is keen to administer more vaccines.
Government is hoping that entertainment such as night clubs and soccer stadiums will incentivise people to getting vaccines. They claim that over a quarter of the adult population has received at least their first dose of jabs.
Stadiums at all levels of PSL football have been empty since the bio-bubble last season. There is a possibility that stadia will have some crowds at the halfway point.
Now government wants to administer approximately 300 000 vaccines per day nationwide.
“In terms of capacity, I want to assure South Africans that we are ready, all that we need is your arms to come through so that we [can] inject you,” Dr. Joe Phaahla, Minister of Health, addressed.
“At this stage it’s not our priority to even start thinking about some kind of legislation or regulation which says [that] every adult must vaccinate… so we’ll observe that debate [but] we don’t want to get involved,” said Phaahla.
“But, on our side, what we are discussing… it’s more encouragement, that’s what we are focusing on. Amongst [these] encouragements are to give some nice goodies.
“As we go towards Christmas, people want some presents… but we’re not talking about a cash pay-out. No, no, I know the US government can offer $100 for that [but] we don’t have that kind of money.” He spoke.
So, instead of monetary reward, the government wants to incentivise people through entertainment.
Only people with vaccination cards will be allowed to enter stadia and night clubs. Government Wants Soccer Stadiums to Incentivise People Get Vaccinated!
