Heineken All-Invitational overwhelms fans with football and entertainment

Perhaps this is one thing that South African football fans have been longing to see, men and women making up two teams to clash with each other. Well, Heineken All-Invitational made it possible as the country was also blessed to witness some of the greatest names in the world, with Clarence Seedorf, Kristine Lilly, and Luis Garcia in the mix.

The launching ceremony was at The Marriot Hotel on Friday with the captains of the two teams unveiling their teammates. Seedorf said he was very pleased to be invited and also spoke highly of South Africa. “I love this country and me being invited to come and grace this exhibition is personal,” says Seedorf.

How were the teams set up?

The football-most capped player and a two-time Olympic gold, Kristine Lilly was leading the team wearing a white jersey. Between the sticks, she had the former Bafana Bafana and Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Brian Baloyi.

The defense was being taken care of by Lucas Radebe who played for Leeds United in the olden days. Their midfield was packed with three players: firstly the former Bafana Bafana captain Amanda Dlamini who’s now an analyst at SuperSport TV.

Reneilwe ‘Yeye’ Letsholonyane, who made his name in the 2010 FIFA World Cup, and the former AC Milan and Netherlands midfielder Clarence Seedorf both joined Amanda to make the team play. All creativity in the midfield was for Portia Modise to convert into goals.

While on the other team, Rosella Ayane who currently plays for Tottenham Hotspur as a forward was a captain. Their safe hands were Mamelodi Sundowns and Banyana Banyana star Andile Dlamini.

Their defense was solidified by Masandawana captain Zanele Nhlapo who was shielding the midfield that had her former teammate at Banyana Mpumi Nyandeni. It was the former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Teko Modise who was there to master the play.

The only South African player to win the UEFA Champions League Benni McCarthy and Real Madrid legend Luis Garcia and Ayane were on the attack.

What were the results of the match?

Ayane’s team that had the likes of Modise and Benni came out victorious with the scoreline of 10-4 and it is safe to say they trashed them. Modise stole the show on the day and found the back of the net a number of times.

Entertainment

While the fans were enjoying seeing the legends and the current players of the game both in women’s and men’s football, Cassper Nyovest was invited by Heineken to perform during halftime.
