Here’s Why Mahlambi Couldn’t Join Orlando Pirates! Phakamani Mahlambi has been playing for the Al Ahly since leaving Bidvest Wits earlier in the season. The youngster was set to go on loan for the remainder of the season in search of more game time but that couldn’t happen.
According to several reports, the reason why Orlando Pirates didn’t get Mahlambi was to avoid a similar case to Tendai Ndoro. “Phaks couldn’t go to Pirates on loan due to the three club (FIFA) rule,” one source revealed.
FIFA rules state that a player can be registered by three clubs in one season, but can only play official matches for two meaning Phaks wouldn’t be eligible to play for Bucs.
The only exception is if the leagues of two of the clubs are overlapping or, to put it in simple terms, starting at different times in the year. The SA and Egyptian Premier Leagues start around the same time.
