Hugo Broos has a managerial career spanning over 30 years. He has worked both in Europe and in Africa previously.
One of the first things Broos touched on was the amount of players that are over 30-years old in the Bafana Bafana squad. He plans on slowly introducing a younger team.
“South Africa has a rich football history and is among the powerhouse on the continent. The country has full of quality and I am coming to coach a truly football nation with massive potential,’’ Broos told the media.
“My main focus will be to weave in new players who have hunger and desire to achieve things. Young players are ambitious and want to prove a point.
“I need to start from there because I want to build a strong Bafana Bafana side for the future,” he adds.
SAFA President Advocate Tebogo Motlanthe also cited Broos’ capabilities to work with young players. The aim is to breed in a young team that will fight to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
“We are fortunate that CAF has pushed back the (World Cup) qualifiers. We now understand that qualifiers will start in June, so we are pressed for time.
“We needed someone that is ready to take the team and that would of course be a person with international experience.”
“He can work with young players. He spoke about his passion to work with our young players.
“He has been watching our games and picked up where we are going wrong. The plan that he will be coming with will be to get back to where we belong as a football country.” Motlanthe added.
