Moriba had played in the Copa Del Rey before but made his first La Liga appearance against Alaves. He notched an assist in the stunning 5-1 victory to send them up to 3rd on the La Liga table.
Ilaix Moriba was born in Guinea but moved to Spain at an early age. He joined La Masia (Barcelona’s youth academy) at the tender age of 7 in 2010.
While growing up in the Barcelona academy, Moriba had access to the likes of Messi himself. Now, Messi and Moriba are teammates at the first team.
“I was picking up my head and seeing Leo and Griezmann – it was all a dream. It was all brilliant,” Moriba said, as per Marca.
“(Messi) is lots of players’ idol. Everyone that knows something about football knows that he’s the best in the world and I’m thankful for the passes he gave me.
“I’ll remember everything. I’ll never forget anything.
“All I need now is to be able to play in front of the fans, with them here cheering us on.” The young man concluded.
