Jan Olde Riekerink Admits That Orlando Pirates Were The Better Team! Cape Town City lost 2-0 to The Buccaneers at the Orlando Stadium yesterday.
Deon Hotto and Vincent Pule scored for Orlando Pirates in the opening 5 minutes of the game. Cape Town City simply failed to keep up with the tempo that the Ghost had set in the match.
The City coach admitted that his side were not up to the races yesterday.
“I think it was a good conclusion, we didn’t start very bad I think also started very good. We knew, we also saw against Chiefs they try every time to get behind the defence,” Riekerink told SuperSport TV.
“After one minute is already 1-0, as a team you have to recover and then 2-0, it took us some time to recover but I think at the end of the first half, we get a little bit more in the game.
“We didn’t play our best football, Pirates was better but in the second-half in the middle phase we had two very big opportunities and if you want to do something in this game you have to score those opportunities,” he said.
“Pirates is a team that puts very good pressure, the pitch was a bit sloppy and we were not able to play under that pressure, for us it’s difficult and it’s also compliment to them, they did that in a very good way.
“Those players can only excel when they get the ball at the right moment, if you start playing long balls they are also not efficient. We have a way of playing in the team where the individual can be an excellent player, if the team does not play well then the individual will also not be there.
“That is what happened today, it’s the quality of Pirates and I think we didn’t have the tools to break it down.”
