Benni McCarthy & Steven Pienaar Select DSTV Premiership Goal of the Month Winners! This is a new format created by the association.

The PSL announced that Benni McCarthy and Steven Pienaar will elect the DSTV Premiership Goal of the Month winners for the season. This was previously voted for by the fans.

The association is attempting to be innovative as they seek counsel from former professionals, rather than supporters. The two South African legends will choose the best goals from each month, starting in August 2022, when the season began.

“In line with keeping up with innovations in the DSTV Premiership, South African football legends Benni McCarthy and Steven Pienaar spearheaded the selection of the DSTV Premiership Goal of the Month award, in a new 2022/23 season format,” the PSL announced in a statement.

“The monthly award recognising the best goals in the league needed to be revitalized, with the winner now decided by the subjective opinion of SA football greats who have played and shone in both the domestic and international leagues for many years.

“The DSTV Premiership Goal of the Month, previously voted for by football fans, is in honour of the best goal scored each month. Goals from each month were made available to the legends to select the winning Goal of the Month.

“McCarthy and Pienaar have picked their Goal of the Month winners from August until the end of March.”

2022/2023 DSTV Premiership Goal of the Month Winners:

• August – Royal AM v Marumo Gallants – Phillip Ndlondlo (Marumo Gallants)
• September/October – Orlando Pirates v Kaizer Chiefs – Yusuf Maart (Kaizer Chiefs)
• December/January – Mamelodi Sundowns v Swallows FC – Themba Zwane (Mamelodi Sundowns)
• February/March – Mamelodi Sundowns v Royal AM – Lantshene Phalane (Royal AM)
