John Maduka Happy With the Point against Mamelodi Sundowns! Bloemfontein Celtic drew 0-0 with Sundowns yesterday.
Sundowns fail to beat Celtic at home for the second time this season. The Celtic head coach John Maduka set up a resolute defensive side.
Jackson Mabokgwane was instrumental in the Celtic goal. After he was substituted for an injury sustained, substitute Sipho Chaine also performed admirably in the Celtic goalposts.
Maduka was pleased with the performance of his side.
“I think we played well especially when it comes to defending as a team, not easy to defend against a team of Sundowns’ calibre, they go forward in numbers but we managed to deal with them,” Maduka told SuperSport TV after the match.
“For us going forward we had chances we could have capitalised on the mistakes that Sundowns made but we did not but a point for us is good especially playing against a team like Sundowns.
“We had to make sure we allow them to have the ball in their own half because we knew that immediately they get into the last third with the runs of Zwane, the likes of Shalulile, Erasmus they are very difficult to deal with,” he explained.
“We had to make sure that we close all the zones that they wanted to exploit and make sure that whenever we win the ball we play on counter-attack and it did well for us.
“They had chances, we also had a couple of chances, they could say the same that they could have scored, we could say we could have scored.
“The one of Fikizolo he was supposed to finish, I’m not sure about the offside one, I still have to look at the video clip and we’ll take it from there. But I think a point is good for us, we played a very good team of Sundowns but we did manage to deal with them,” he concluded
