Royal AM drew 1-1 away to Orlando Pirates in the DSTV Premiership last night. Head coach John Maduka was delighted to leave Soweto with a point.
The away side took the lead through Levy Mashiane. Linda Mntambo equalised for the hosts on the brink of half time.
The first stanza was a very scrappy affair, with neither side taking control of proceedings. The second half was much better from both teams as they cancelled each other out.
“We wanted to take more charge of the game.
“Remember we’re playing away from home, there’s pressure, so you try to be cautious. You don’t just go all out,” the coach said to SuperSport TV after the match.
“We’re playing against Pirates, what they can do especially when they’re on the ball. So, you gotta be very careful and we did that.
“We made some mistakes when we started. They made some mistakes as well,
“I think the game itself first-half we didn’t use the ball well, especially when we were pressed,” he said.
“The decision-making was also not right but after that we got the goal also from their mistake but I think we made a good run, put pressure on them because we know once we put pressure, they can’t be able to deal with Victor and Victor made a good run there.
“Then we managed to get that goal. Again we conceded a soft goal, a goal that was not supposed to be there, not okay!
“Its football, you lose some and win some, it’s a young team on the block but so far you understand we’re getting better and better. We will win games, as you know the way it is, everyone wants to shoot us down.
“It’s not easy for the players but they’re working hard.
“And for us to get a point away from home it’s achieving something. It’s a young team on the block, you get a point from Pirates, and it’s something.
“It will get tougher but we’ll get experience, we’ll get better and we’ll win games and we’ll lose some. It’s football, its part of it but we take it one game at a time,” he added.
