Kaizer Chiefs Assistant Coach Cedric Kaze Explains Substitution of Thabiso Monyane

Kaizer Chiefs assistant coach Cedric Kaze has clarified the decision to substitute new signing Thabiso Monyane during their 1-0 win over Polokwane City at FNB Stadium on Wednesday.

Amakhosi secured their second consecutive Betway Premiership win of the season, with new signing Siphesihle Ndlovu scoring the match-winning goal. The victory also marked their second clean sheet in as many matches, lifting Chiefs to second place on the league table.

Monyane and fellow new recruit Pasela Mako entered the game as substitutes, but Monyane was later withdrawn in the second half and replaced by Reeve Frosler. The move sparked questions among sections of the Chiefs fanbase.

Kaze explained the decision as both technical and tactical. “We felt that we had the advantage, especially on the right, as well as the left back of Polokwane City, having already a yellow card,” he said in a post-match press conference.

He added that the team had identified space on the right side of the field and opportunities to exploit Polokwane City’s defensive gaps. “We know that Reeve is a very clever player, especially going forward. He knows how to get into these pockets, and as we cannot forget that it is a second game in three days. It was tough for Monyane to finish the game, even [Bradley] Cross.”

Chiefs now turn their attention to their next Betway Premiership fixture against Richards Bay on Tuesday at FNB Stadium, aiming to maintain their perfect start to the campaign.
