Josef Zinnbauer Reaches Milestone 50 Matches As Buccaneers Coach! The German reached this landmark for Orlando Pirates yesterday.

The Buccaneers defeated Nigerian side Enyimba FC 2-1 in the CAF Confederations Cup group game at the Orlando Stadium yesterday. Not only did he reach 50 matches but he also created a record for himself.

In his 50 games in charge, he has recorded 30 wins, 6 losses and 14 draws. This means that Zinnbauer has a 60% win rate, the best of any Orlando Pirates head coach in their 1^st 50 games in the PSL era.

However, the German did not want to make a big deal of this.

“To be honest, I have not been keeping track of this,” the Coach said.

“But it’s good to know I have managed to get 50 games under my belt with a victory last night. At the end of the day, this [results] is what is important” he added.

Zinnbauer was quick to deflect the credit to everyone else. He thanked the staff, players and Dr Irvin Khoza (club chairman).

“On a personal level, this is a nice achievement but as this is a team sport where there’s a lot of other people involved; this achievement is much theirs (technical team and players) as it is mine.”

Orlando Pirates won the MTN 8 trophy in December 2020. This was Zinnbauer’s first ever accolade as a manager.

He was also able to end The Bucs’ 6 year trophy drought.

“Of course, winning the MTN8 was a big one. That was a major highlight for me.

“But it’s now in the past. As the Chairman of the club always says, you cannot dry today’s clothes with yesterday’s sun.

“Our focus now is what is ahead of us and not what is behind.”

Orlando Pirates take on Kaizer Chiefs in the DSTV Premiership on Sunday.
