Kaizer Chiefs Boost CAF Confederation Cup Squad With Maboe and Mayo Additions

Kaizer Chiefs have strengthened their travelling squad ahead of their CAF Confederation Cup second preliminary round clash against DRC side AS Simba. The Soweto giants will travel to Lubumbashi for the first leg this Saturday with the inclusion of Lebohang Maboe and Khanyisa Mayo.
Both players were absent from the squad that faced Angolan club Kabuscorp in the first preliminary round. Maboe, who joined Chiefs in September, is yet to make his debut for the club, making this fixture a potential first appearance in Amakhosi colours. Mayo, who was not registered for the opening preliminary round, joins the squad while Flavio da Silva has dropped out.
The squad selected for the trip is as follows:
Goalkeepers: Brandon Petersen, Fiacre Ntwari, Bruce Bvuma
Defenders: Zitha Kwinika, Inacio Miguel, Aden McCarthy, Bradley Cross, Dillan Solomons, Reeve Frosler
Midfielders: Lebohang Maboe, Thabo Cele, Siphesihle Ndlovu, Sibongiseni Mthethwa, Gaston Sirino, Nkosingiphile Ngcobo, Mduduzi Shabalala, Mfundo Vilakazi
Forwards: Pule Mmodi, Glody Lilepo, Khanyisa Mayo, Wandile Duba, Ashley du Preez
The addition of Maboe and Mayo provides coach Khalil Ben Youssef and co-coach Cedric Kaze with more attacking and creative options. Maboe’s experience in top-flight South African football and Mayo’s pace and versatility could prove key against AS Simba, a team Chiefs will face away from home in the first leg.
Chiefs will aim to build on their first preliminary round performance and secure a strong result before returning to Soweto for the second leg. The inclusion of new faces in the squad demonstrates the club’s intent to compete strongly in continental football this season.
