Kaizer Chiefs Boosted by Player Availability Ahead of CAF Confederation Cup Clash with AS Simba

Kaizer Chiefs coaches Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze have strengthened their squad ahead of the second preliminary round of the CAF Confederation Cup against AS Simba of the Democratic Republic of Congo. The team is focused on reaching the group stages, aiming to replicate their memorable 2021 Champions League campaign that ended in a final defeat to Al Ahly.
Chiefs’ chances have improved with the clearance of two key players, Asanele Velebayi and Luke Baartman, after a registration dispute with former club Cape Town Spurs. Both players have now been officially registered for the Confederation Cup and are fit to compete for spots in the matchday squad. The decision to start them will rest with the coaching staff, as both may need time to regain full match fitness. Baartman, who recently featured at the under-20 FIFA World Cup, showed flashes of quality but appeared rusty due to limited competitive play.
Mfundo Vilakazi is also available after returning from the World Cup. His strong performances on the international stage position him as a contender for a regular spot in Chiefs’ starting line-up.
Amakhosi will travel to Lubumbashi for the first leg of the clash on Saturday, with the return leg scheduled for October 26 at Dobsonville Stadium. Chiefs are determined to secure progression and build momentum toward the group stages of the competition.
