Kaizer Chiefs Continue Squad Overhaul Ahead of 2025/26 Season

Kaizer Chiefs have stepped up their squad restructuring efforts ahead of the 2025/26 campaign by parting ways with several promising talents from their DStv Diski Challenge (DDC) team, signalling a clear shift in direction at Naturena.

The latest player to depart is reserve team captain Ntandoyenkosi Nkosi, who played a key role in leading Amakhosi to the DDC title. His exit had been widely speculated, with TS Galaxy reportedly the front-runners to secure his signature. Chiefs confirmed his departure with a heartfelt message, praising Nkosi for his leadership and dedication during his time with the club.

“From rising through our youth academy ranks to leading the Kaizer Chiefs reserves with heart, discipline, and pride — Ntando has left a mark that will live far beyond the final whistle,” read the official club statement.

Nkosi’s departure follows that of fellow midfielders Sihle Tati and Sabelo Radebe, two other players who were instrumental in the success of Chiefs’ reserve side. Tati is also believed to be heading to TS Galaxy, while Radebe has officially moved on from the Soweto giants.

The ongoing exits have sparked debate among fans and insiders, especially with regard to head coach Nasreddine Nabi’s approach to youth integration. The decision to release key DDC players rather than promote them has been interpreted by some as a lack of confidence in the club’s development system.

This contrasts with the approach of rivals Orlando Pirates, who have recently shown faith in their young players, several of whom earned first-team minutes toward the end of the 2024/25 season.

Despite the exits, Kaizer Chiefs have promoted a few standout performers from the reserve team. Naleli Hlongwane, the top scorer in the DDC, and talented left-back Kabelo Nkgwesa have both been rewarded with first-team promotions after their contributions to the title-winning campaign.

With Nabi expected to be active in the upcoming transfer market, Chiefs fans will be watching closely to see how the squad is rebuilt ahead of a crucial season. The club’s ability to balance new signings with internal development could be key to returning to the top of South African football.

As Chiefs prepare for the new season, the departure of reserve team stalwarts like Nkosi marks the end of one chapter—and the beginning of another. Whether this bold squad overhaul leads to long-term success remains to be seen.
