Kaizer Chiefs Legend Not Convinced That Amakhosi Can Catch Sundowns Anytime Soon
Kaizer Chiefs legend Rudolf Gardner Seale doesn’t believe that Amakhosi will be able to catch Mamelodi Sundowns anytime soon. He says the structure at Downs is solid and it would take Chiefs a long time to match the Brazilians.
Sundowns have been dominating constantly for the past ten years now and other Premier Soccer League clubs seem left way behind. In the recent seasons, they have lifted the league title five times in a row and have completed a domestic treble two times in the same period.

Meanwhile, Amakhosi have never lifted a trophy in the last seven years. The last time they won a silverware was when they won MTN 8 and Absa Premiership in the 2014/15 season. Stuart Baxter was the man in charge at the time before he was offered a job in Europe. He came back this past season but it didn’t end well with the Scottish coach being shown the door following a string of poor results.
The Phefeni Glamour Boys are in the process of squad overhaul having parted ways with 12 players and signed seven so far as they rebuild the squad for the newly appointed coach Arthur Zwane. As per Chiefs’ Football Manager Bobby Motaung, the mandate for coaches is to win trophies next season. However, Seale seems not convinced that his former side is capable of going toe to toe with Pretoria giants.
“Never! Never my brother, not tomorrow not the day after tomorrow, they will never disturb Sundowns,” Seale told Kickoff.com. “At Sundowns it has to do with more than getting a good player. The structure, the way Sundowns is being run, it’s so impressive.”
He also alluded to Sundowns’ smart recruitment strategy as they always sign players that fit their style of play straight away when they arrive. “For a player to be good at a certain team you need to give him five or six games just to get used to the club’s environment. This is what Sundowns is doing now, they don’t just sign a player just because the window is open. They sign because they need a player.

“Because you sign a player, you expect him to change the team’s situation just because you have spent money? I don’t think both teams will ever catch Sundowns. Never. No hope. It’s gonna take long huh?
“It might take six, seven years huh? Even more. When these two start thinking about reinforcing their teams, Sundowns will not just sit on their laurels and do nothing. They will also reinforce,” he said.
