Kaizer Chiefs Move Quickly to Secure Captain Yusuf Maart Amid Transfer Interest

Kaizer Chiefs are wasting no time in securing the long-term future of their captain Yusuf Maart, with the club believed to be on the verge of finalising a contract extension that will keep the midfielder at Naturena until June 2027.
The 29-year-old has been a pivotal figure for the Soweto giants since his arrival from Sekhukhune United in 2022. This season, Maart has been a consistent starter in midfield, often leading by example with his composure, work rate, and leadership on the pitch.
Amakhosi had been eager to tie the skipper down to a new deal, but with his contract edging closer to its end, the situation became increasingly delicate. Reports recently emerged that Sekhukhune United, his former club, were showing strong interest in luring him back—raising fears among Chiefs supporters of potentially losing their captain on a free transfer.
According to sources close to the club, Chiefs have moved swiftly behind the scenes to avoid that outcome. “What I can tell you is that the deal is as good as done. He will remain at the club until June 2027,” a source revealed to Soccer Laduma. “They had to move fast because there were clubs interested in him, but now they are safe and they have him for another two years.”
Another insider hinted that Sekhukhune’s growing interest served as a catalyst for Chiefs to act decisively. “Yes, I can say that the interest from Sekhukhune United also helped to push Chiefs to make the decision to extend his contract for another two years and not lose him for free. Above all, they wanted to ensure they had all their defensive midfield options settled for next season as they focus on strengthening other departments.”
With competition for places in midfield from the likes of Thabo Cele, Edson Castillo, Samkelo Zwane, Njabulo Blom, and Sibongiseni “Ox” Mthethwa, Maart’s experience and influence remain crucial for the Glamour Boys. His continued presence also brings stability to the squad as Chiefs look to mount a stronger campaign next season.
Despite repeated attempts for confirmation, the club has not officially commented on the status of the new deal. However, the latest indications suggest that Chiefs fans can expect their captain to lead the charge in gold and black for the foreseeable future.
