Kaizer Chiefs Receive Defensive Boost Ahead of CAF Confederation Cup Clash

Kaizer Chiefs have received a significant boost to their defense ahead of their CAF Confederation Cup Group D opener against Al Masry in Egypt. The Soweto giants confirmed their official traveling squad for the first group stage match, which includes the return of key defenders Given Msimango and Paseka Mako, both sidelined for much of the preliminary rounds due to injury.
Chiefs advanced to the group stage after victories over Kabuscorp and AS Simba in the first and second preliminary rounds. They now face a challenging Group D alongside Egyptian sides Al Masry and Zamalek, with ZESCO United from Zambia completing the group.
In addition to Msimango and Mako, midfielder Siphesihle Ndlovu has also recovered from injury and will be part of the traveling squad. Their inclusion strengthens a team looking to make a strong impression in North Africa.
Notably, goalkeeper Fiacre Ntwari will miss the trip following surgery, while Reeve Frosler and Nkanyiso Shinga are also unavailable. Ethan Chislett remains sidelined, yet the Chiefs’ attacking options remain solid despite the absence of Wandile Duba. Forwards Flavio Silva, Etiossa Ighodaro, and Ashley du Preez are expected to fill the gaps effectively.
The match on Sunday against Al Masry marks Chiefs’ first step in the group stage, with the team eager to capitalize on the return of their defensive mainstays. The inclusion of Msimango and Mako is expected to provide stability at the back and confidence throughout the squad as they aim for a strong campaign in the CAF Confederation Cup.
