Kaizer Chiefs Rising Star Sfiso Timba Attracts Interest from Sekhukhune United After U20 AFCON Heroics

Promising Kaizer Chiefs defender Sfiso Timba is drawing attention from fellow Betway Premiership side Sekhukhune United following a string of standout performances for the Amakhosi DDC team and the South Africa U20 national squad. The 19-year-old right-back, who recently played a key role in Amajita’s triumphant junior AFCON campaign, has quickly emerged as one of the country’s brightest young talents.

According to sources close to the situation, Sekhukhune United have expressed serious interest in acquiring Timba on loan for the 2025/26 season, as they look to bolster their defensive department with youthful energy and international experience.

“You know Chiefs were looking at promoting him this season,” a source told Soccer Laduma. “But with the signing of Thabiso Monyane, they feel they now have enough cover at right-back. The plan is to allow Timba to gain regular first-team experience elsewhere, and Sekhukhune’s enquiry has opened the door for a possible loan. It’s not going to be a permanent transfer—Chiefs still see him as part of their long-term plans.”

Timba’s rapid rise comes after successful trials with Belgian side RWD Molenbeek earlier this year. While a return to Europe remains on the table, Chiefs are reportedly prioritising local interest at this stage of his development.

“They were happy when he was there,” another source close to the player added, referring to RWD Molenbeek. “The club in Belgium followed up after his trial, so that option is still open. But for now, the focus is on managing the domestic offers, with Sekhukhune currently leading the race.”

Timba’s performances at international level have only increased his stock. Under the guidance of coach Raymond Mdaka, the talented full-back was instrumental in South Africa’s U20 AFCON triumph, helping the team secure qualification for the U20 FIFA World Cup later this year. His composure, defensive discipline, and ability to contribute in attack have made him a standout among his peers.

Sekhukhune United, who are looking to build on a solid showing last season, have remained coy on the potential move. When contacted by Soccer Laduma, the club’s Marketing Manager Tebogo Mapinga offered a non-committal response: “For now, it’s no comment. You know such things are reported through the team’s right channels.”

Kaizer Chiefs have yet to officially respond to queries regarding Timba’s future, but internally, the club remains excited about the youngster’s long-term potential.

Should a loan move to Sekhukhune materialise, it could prove a vital stepping stone for Timba’s growth, providing him with top-flight experience while keeping the door open for a return to Naturena—or a renewed opportunity abroad.

For now, Sfiso Timba’s next move is one to watch closely as both local and international clubs line up for the signature of South Africa’s next breakout star.
