Kaizer Chiefs Rue Missed Chances as Gallants Snatch 1-1 Draw

Kaizer Chiefs missed the chance to return to winning ways as a brilliant second-half strike by Jaison Clifford cancelled out Khanyisa Mayo’s debut goal.

The result leaves Chiefs in the top three of the league, but six points behind leaders Sekhukhune United. Chiefs also missed a crucial first-half penalty through Gaston Sirino, a missed opportunity that proved costly.

Speaking to SuperSport TV, assistant coach Khalil Ben Youssef praised Marumo Gallants for their performance. “First, I have to say congratulations to the coach of Marumo Gallants and the team. They showed very good performance this season and have a lot of quality,” he said.

Youssef expressed frustration at Chiefs’ inability to convert chances. “For us, I think we deserved to win this game. We managed the game and were in control for all 90 minutes. They didn’t create any real chances. Their only situation was a shot from outside the box, which ended up being their goal,” he added.

He highlighted the importance of finishing scoring opportunities. “When you play football, you have to score. In the last five minutes, we had three or four chances but were unlucky. The penalty was also unlucky. In the second half, we started well and had two chances in the first 15 minutes. If you don’t score, you always risk conceding.”

Youssef concluded by urging the team to focus on upcoming matches. “Congratulations to Marumo Gallants for the points. Hard luck for us. Now we finish this game and think about the next one. Saturday’s game is very important. I’m sorry for the fans today, and we hope to make them happy on Saturday.”

Chiefs will aim to bounce back in their next fixture while building on Mayo’s promising debut performance.
