Kaizer Chiefs Seek Playing Opportunities for Donay Jansen Ahead of New Season

As the Dutch league gears up for its new season, South African football giant Kaizer Chiefs are busy preparing for their own campaign back home. Amidst strengthening their squad, the Soweto-based club is also actively searching for a suitable destination for midfielder Donay Jansen, a young player who has struggled to secure a place in head coach Nasreddine Nabi’s plans.

Last season, Chiefs loaned out the 22-year-old Jansen to SuperSport United with hopes that he would gain valuable game time and experience. However, the move did not go as planned, with Jansen finding it difficult to break into SuperSport’s starting lineup. According to reports from Soccer Laduma, Chiefs have made it clear that Jansen will not be part of their first-team squad for the upcoming season at Naturena. The club is now keen on arranging another move that will allow the youngster more regular minutes on the pitch.

Current indications suggest that a transfer to a club in the Motsepe Foundation Championship—South Africa’s second tier—may be the most viable option for Jansen. Whether this will take the form of another loan or a permanent deal remains uncertain at this stage, but the priority is clear: giving the midfielder the chance to develop with consistent playing time.

Jansen faces an uphill battle, given the club’s track record with loaned-out players. Several Chiefs talents, including Sabelo Radebe, Mduduzi Mdantsane, Given Thibedi, Keletso Sifama, Lebohang Lesako, Darrel Matsheke, and Yusuf Bunting, have found it difficult to return from loans and secure significant roles in the first team. This pattern does not bode well for Jansen, who could potentially follow in their footsteps unless he can impress elsewhere.

It’s worth noting that before his loan spell at SuperSport, Jansen signed a contract extension with Kaizer Chiefs running through June 2027, underscoring the club’s initial belief in his potential. However, with competition increasing and new signings arriving at Naturena, his path into the senior squad appears increasingly narrow.

Meanwhile, Kaizer Chiefs have already confirmed the departure of several players, including Edmilson Dove, Ranga Chivaviro, Mdantsane, and Radebe, with more exits expected before the transfer window closes. The club is clearly focused on reshaping the squad to meet the demands of the new season while ensuring young players like Jansen find the right environment to grow.

For Donay Jansen, the coming weeks will be crucial as he looks to find a club where he can secure meaningful playing time and reignite his career prospects. Whether that journey continues with Kaizer Chiefs or elsewhere remains to be seen, but the priority remains clear: development through opportunity.
