Kaizer Chiefs Set to Face Asante Kotoko in 2025 Toyota Cup at Moses Mabhida Stadium

Kaizer Chiefs have officially confirmed that they will take on Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko in the 2025 edition of the Toyota Cup, set to be played at Durban’s Moses Mabhida Stadium on July 26.

The announcement was made on Thursday, following earlier reports from Soccer Laduma hinting at the return of the popular pre-season tournament to South African soil. The match marks another exciting chapter in Chiefs’ pre-season preparations as the Soweto giants gear up for the 2025/26 campaign.

Jessica Motaung, Kaizer Chiefs’ Corporate and Marketing Manager, spoke to the media about the significance of this fixture and the club’s broader pre-season strategy.

“This is definitely an important pre-season fixture for us as Kaizer Chiefs in terms of the strategic direction that we are taking in terms of preparations,” said Motaung. “The Toyota Cup unites African clubs and it is uniting African clubs, supporters, and culture. Last year we played against Young Africans of Tanzania.”

Motaung also highlighted the club’s decision to bring the match to Durban this year, describing the city as Chiefs’ “home away from home.”

“We go to the cities that love football and this year we will be in Durban which is our home away from home,” she added.

In addition to the main fixture, Chiefs fans can look forward to several exciting elements surrounding the Toyota Cup event. As has become tradition, Amakhosi will use the occasion to unveil their new season’s kit, both home and away, giving supporters the first live glimpse of the team’s fresh look for the upcoming season.

The day’s entertainment will also include a curtain-raiser match featuring the Kaizer Chiefs Legends against the KZN Legends, bringing an extra layer of nostalgia and excitement for fans attending the event.
