Kaizer Chiefs Stutter As SSU-Sundowns Gain Ground In PSL Title Race
SuperSport United claimed the scalp of league leaders Kaizer Chiefs as Grobler-Gabuza “MTN8” strike partnership came to haunt Amakhosi title chance and with that reignited the Tswane boys title hopes.
Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns have been talked of as the 2019-20 Absa Premiership’s title favourites, but SuperSport United got themselves back in the title equation with a 2-1 win at a packed Mbombela Stadium on Saturday night.
Bradley Grobler gave SuperSport a ninth-minute lead before Daniel Cardoso equalised from the penalty spot in the 48th minute only for substitute Thamsanqa Gabuza to bang in the SuperSport’s winner in the 61st minute.
Chiefs struck the woodwork three times in a high tempo game and quality, as they came all out in search of the equaliser.
Chiefs’ enjoyed a seven-point lead at the Christmas break but with the weekend loss, it is now less imposing as Sundowns cut that to 4 points throwing the league title race wide open.
Sibusiso Vilakazi and a brace from Themba Zwane gave Pitso Mosimane’s Sundowns a 3-nil victory over Amazulu.
