Kambole On His First Goal For Amakhosi
It has been a while since I scored a goal,” says Lazalous Kambole following his first goal for Kaizer Chiefs. “I remember I scored my last goal for my former team, Zesco against Zanaco Football on 22 June 2019 in the Absa cup final at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium. We won 4-1 to lift the trophy.”
The long-awaited goal in the Gold and Black colours of Amakhosi came when the Zambian scored his first league goal on 23 August 2020. Kambole scored in the 67th minute to earn Kaizer Chiefs a 1-1 draw against Stellenbosch FC.
“The goal draught period has not been easy for me,” adds Kambole. “I had to work hard and use the negative feedback to build my courage and to turn everything into positivity. I am proud to have passed through that phase and looking forward to greater things.”
The 25-year-old arrived in Naturena from Ndola, Zambia as one of Kaizer Chiefs’ marquee signings ahead of the 2019/20 season. He has scored many goals back in Zambia, including eight for the Zambian national team in a short space of time. He scored for Chipolopolo on his debut against Uganda on 14 January 2018.
Reflecting on his first goal for Chiefs he says: “I knew that God’s time is the best time. I came off the bench at half time when we were a goal down. I recall 5 minutes before half time I started praying asking God to let this be an end to the waiting. Yes, indeed when we needed someone to make a difference, my breakthrough came. I got a chance and scored.”
He is a multi-title winner during his six-year period with Zesco FC, including four league titles and two cup competition trophies.
“In the second half we started controlling the game,” Kambole says, “We were pushing for an equaliser. I saw the ball going wide to Reeve Frosler. I ran straight into the box following an on-rushing Willard Katsande. The ball went straight to Willard, but he was obstructed. The ball came through to me and first I thought of a header but then decided to control and slot it in.”
Kambole has so far made fourteen appearances in all competitions for Amakhosi.
Ahead of the mouthwatering clash against Mamelodi Sundowns, he concludes: “Playing Sundowns will be a very difficult game. Sundowns are a good team, play good football and they are title contenders. Both teams stand a chance of winning the game. We will give it our all to win it. We just need to stick to our plan and unleash our power to continue leading the log.
Zambians are no stranger to Amakhosi faithful with the latest import coming in the form of the goal machine, Collins ‘Ntofontofo’ Mbesuma who in his one season, 2004/5 rattled the net on 33 occasions.
