Katlego Otladisa Returns to Marumo Gallants After Orlando Pirates Exit

Katlego Otladisa has rejoined Marumo Gallants after parting ways with Orlando Pirates, ending speculation that he was set for a move to KwaZulu-Natal. The winger, 29, became the Buccaneers’ 10th exit at the end of August when the club confirmed his contract would not be renewed.

Otladisa had joined Pirates in July 2023 from Gallants but struggled to secure regular playing time. The rise of Monnapule Saleng and Relebohile Mofokeng limited his opportunities, while a six-month loan at Sekhukhune United failed to reignite his form.

Despite training with Pirates during pre-season, the decision was made not to extend his stay. This followed a pattern of limited impact since his arrival, and a loan spell at Babina Noko that produced little return.

Following his release, Otladisa was linked with a move to Gavin Hunt’s Durban City, where he was believed to have undergone an assessment. However, he has now opted for a familiar environment by signing again with Gallants.

The move mirrors the path taken by former teammate Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo, who also returned to his old club after an unsuccessful stint elsewhere. Gallants, currently working under the leadership of Abdeslam Ouaddou, see the return of experienced players as key to stabilising their squad.

Otladisa’s comeback provides Gallants with depth and experience in wide areas. His pace and ability to stretch defences were qualities that made him a standout at the Limpopo club before his move to Soweto. For the player, the return offers a chance to reset his career after a difficult spell at Pirates and Sekhukhune.

Gallants will hope that Otladisa’s familiarity with the club and environment will allow him to quickly find his rhythm as they prepare for the season ahead. For Otladisa, it is an opportunity to revive the form that once made him a sought-after winger in the league.
