Kevin De Bruyne Wins 2020 PFA Players’ Player of The Year
Kevin De Bruyne Wins 2020 PFA Players’ Player of The Year. The Belgian had an extraordinary season for Manchester City even though they finished behind champions Liverpool. He amassed a record equalling 20 assists to go with his 13 goals.
Kevin De Bruyne became Manchester City’s first eve recipient of the award. He ended a two year Liverpool dominance which saw Mohammed Salah (2018) and Virgil Van Dijk (2019) win the individual awards.
This is individual acclaim that Guardiola had been longing for as he feels that De Bruyne was the standout player in 2018. The Cityzens collected an unprecedented 100 points in that season.
De Bruyne was quick to shower his boss with compliments after receiving the award. “Most of the time he just lets me be me,” De Bruyne said.
“We speak often about the team but in a lot of senses he knows when he gives the orders of what the team has to do that I will listen.
“But then on the other side he gives me a lot of freedom; I don’t know why, that’s just the way it goes between us.
“He knows in one way I will always put the team first and then obviously if I can help myself I’m going to do that.
“But he knows that I want the team to win, and if the team wins I will gain from it. So I think in that sense he feels fine and he trusts me completely.”
The Belgian ousted Liverpool quartet Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil Van Dijk, Sadio Mane and Jordan Henderson to the award. Alexander-Arnold did however claim the PFA Young Player Of The Year Award. Henderson grabbed the Premier League Player of The Season Award.
De Bruyne and Guardiola will look to reclaim their English crown from Liverpool after they finished an astonishing 18-points behind the eventual league winners. As David Silva has departed the club, City will look to the Belgian for more inspiration as Kevin De Bruyne wins 2020 PFA Players’ Player of The Year.
