Khanya Leshabela Feels Like It is Almost Time to Step Up!
Khanya Leshabela Feels Like It is Almost Time to Step Up! The 21-year-old made the bench last night for Leicester City in the Europa League. He did not come off the bench for the game.
The Premier League has not had a South African player since 2017. Khanya Leshabela is very close to becoming the man to end that drought.
Leshabela was brought into the Leicester youth ranks from a very young age. He has since grown into the academy and signed his first professional contract with the club.
He refused to be loaned out this season, claiming that he has what it takes to fight for his place in the team.
“It’s insane that I was called up to the first team on such a big European night. I’ve been working very hard and decided to stay at the club instead of going out on loan,” Leshabela told FarPostZA.
“It’s almost time for me to step up now I know what is expected of me, I am ready for my chance,”
Leshabela signed his first professional contract with Leicester City in January 2019.
“The exciting 19-year-old, who joined the Foxes in 2013, has been in fine form for the Development Squad this season, with his performances earning him a place in Claude Puel’s squad for the Carabao Cup game against Southampton in November.
After an impressive campaign with Leicester City’s Under-18s last term, in which he was nominated for the Academy Player of the Year Award, the South African has continued his progression at Under-23 level this term.
He caught the eye with a stunning Premier League Cup strike against Nottingham Forest earlier in the campaign and represented the Football Club three times in the 2016/17 UEFA Youth League.” The club website stated.
