Khanyisa Mayo’s CR Belouizdad in Advanced Talks with New Manager
Algerian giants CR Belouizdad are reportedly closing in on appointing a new permanent head coach, with talks underway to bring former Mauritania national team manager Amir Abdou to the helm. The move follows the club’s recent struggles and a managerial shakeup.
Belouizdad parted ways with their former coach Abdelkader Amrani last month after failing to secure a place in the CAF Champions League quarter-finals. The disappointing exit prompted the club to appoint Samir Houhou as caretaker manager while the search for a permanent replacement began.
According to Algerian publication El Khabar, negotiations with Abdou have reached an advanced stage. Abdou has been without a managerial role since November 2024, when he departed Mauritania after the team failed to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Despite this setback, Abdou is highly regarded for his achievements, particularly during AFCON 2023, where he made history by leading Mauritania to the tournament’s round of 16 for the first time. The campaign included a landmark victory over Algeria in the group stages, cementing his reputation as a tactician capable of achieving remarkable results with underdog teams.
Born in Comoros, Abdou previously managed Mauritanian club FC Nouadhibou and boasts a record of 32 matches with Mauritania, achieving 12 wins, seven draws, and 13 losses, according to Transfermarkt.
If appointed, Abdou will inherit a CR Belouizdad side looking to rebound from recent setbacks. The club, home to South African forward Khanyisa Mayo, remains one of Algeria’s most prominent teams, but they are eager to reassert themselves on the domestic and continental stages.
With Abdou’s experience and tactical expertise, Belouizdad hopes to revitalize their campaign and strengthen their push for success in the Algerian league and beyond. Fans will be eager to see if the negotiations materialize and how Abdou’s potential appointment could transform the team’s fortunes.
