Kifisia Set to Sign Argentine Midfielder Matías Esquivel from Mamelodi Sundowns
Greek club Kifisia are reportedly close to completing the signing of Argentine midfielder Matías Esquivel from Mamelodi Sundowns.
According to Argentine journalist Cesar Luis Merlo, the 25-year-old playmaker has arrived in Greece to undergo medical examinations ahead of a one-year loan deal, which includes an option for Kifisia to purchase him at the end of the loan.
Esquivel joined Sundowns 18 months ago, adding technical ability and vision to the club’s midfield. While he was not a regular starter, he made 16 appearances across all competitions during his time at the South African club.
In the 2024/25 season, Esquivel featured once in the Betway Premiership, twice in the Nedbank Cup, and was part of Sundowns’ CAF Champions League squad. His 2023/24 campaign was more active, recording nine league appearances with one goal, alongside three Nedbank Cup matches where he scored once and provided an assist.
The move to Kifisia offers Esquivel an opportunity for more regular playing time and a chance to showcase his skills in European football, while Sundowns can provide the Greek side with an experienced midfielder capable of influencing the attacking phase.
