Knowledge Musona Speaks on Zimbabwe Return Ahead of World Cup Qualifiers

Former Kaizer Chiefs striker Knowledge Musona has broken his silence after making a sensational return to international football with Zimbabwe. The veteran forward is back in the Warriors setup for the first time since the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, having previously announced his retirement from international duty.
Musona’s Surprise Return
The 2010/11 PSL Golden Boot winner had stepped away from international football following Zimbabwe’s AFCON campaign, but national team coach Michael Nees has successfully convinced him to reconsider. Now 35, Musona has joined his compatriots in camp as they prepare for their crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Benin and Nigeria.
Speaking about his return, the Saudi Pro League forward expressed optimism about the future of the Zimbabwean team after witnessing the talent in training.
“The training was good and I saw a lot of quality, which makes me think that the future of the Warriors is bright,” Musona told Soccer24.
“I just hope that I will help these youngsters and contribute to their development.”
Warriors’ Qualification Hopes
Zimbabwe currently sits at the bottom of Group C in the World Cup qualification standings, but Musona believes they can turn things around in the upcoming matches.
“In football, everything is possible, and I think it starts with this game that is coming,” the ex-Augsburg attacker said.
“The most important thing is to collect maximum points in this coming game and try to go and collect some points in Nigeria. But for now, I think the focus has to be on Benin, which I believe with this quality we will be able to collect maximum points.”
Experienced Stars Returning to the Warriors
Musona is not the only high-profile name to make a return to the Zimbabwean national team. Another former Kaizer Chiefs star, Khama Billiat, also reversed his retirement decision late last year, providing a major boost to the Warriors as they aim to revive their World Cup hopes.
With experienced figures like Musona back in the fold, Zimbabwe will be hoping to make a strong statement in their upcoming fixtures and climb the qualification standings.
