Last 5 Bafana Bafana Captains
Let us take a look at some of the Bafana Bafana captains who stood up to the task and led by example. We focus on the last 5 captains thus far.
1.Benni McCarthy, Although regarded as a bit of a controversial figure due to his weight gain and sometimes not reporting for duty on time, there is no doubting that McCarthy’s presence did inspire the boys. He is still the leading Bafana Bafana scorer even today.
2.Aaron Mokoena, was one the youngest player to ever represent South Africa. Having played abroad with Blackburn Rovers and Portsmouth, Mokoena lead Bafana Bafana to the 2010 World Cup with the captain’s armband attached to him.
3.Itumeleng Khune was handed the skipper’s tag when Steven Pienaar retired from international football. Khune, is constantly spurring on his teammates.
4.Steven Pienaar, was also a great captain. Many South Africans still feel a bit of betrayal after he suddenly quit the Bafana Bafana squad. Still, the fact of the matter is that his record when sporting the armband showed more positive results than negative and he will always be an admired figure.
5.Senzo Meyiwa, although late, he needs to be honored. The former Pirates shot-stopper was always spotted giving his all on the field and there was never a moment he wasn’t communicating with the squad. He was a natural leader for club and country.
