Lebo Mothiba Returns to Mamelodi Sundowns After a Decade in Europe

Mamelodi Sundowns have officially announced the signing of Bafana Bafana striker Lebo Mothiba, adding firepower to their already formidable attacking lineup. The 29-year-old forward returns to South Africa after spending a decade in Europe, where he featured for top clubs such as Lille OSC, Valenciennes, and RC Strasbourg.

A Homecoming for Mothiba

Mothiba’s return to Sundowns marks a full-circle moment in his career. The striker was part of the club’s academy from 2007 to 2009 before making a move abroad. Now, after years of competing at the highest levels in Europe, he is back to contribute to the reigning PSL champions.

The club welcomed him with an enthusiastic message:

“He’s flown the South African flag overseas, now Lebo Mothiba is here to add more forward firepower to Bafana Ba Style! Welcome to the home of the Champions, Lebo!”

Mothiba’s Readiness and Sundowns’ Ambitions

Having recovered from a lengthy injury, Mothiba has been training with the team since January. Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso recently expressed confidence in the striker’s fitness, stating that he has integrated well into the squad and is in the final stages of recovery.

With Sundowns competing on multiple fronts, including the Betway Premiership, Nedbank Cup, CAF Champions League, and FIFA Club World Cup, Mothiba’s experience and physicality will be a crucial asset. He joins an attacking unit featuring stars like Peter Shalulile and Iqraam Rayners, giving the team even more options in their quest for silverware.

Sundowns’ Continued Dominance

Mothiba’s arrival signals Sundowns’ continued ambition to strengthen their squad with seasoned talent. As they aim to maintain their supremacy in South African football and make a deeper impact on the continental stage, his signing is expected to bolster their attacking depth and provide the team with more tactical flexibility.

Sundowns fans will be eager to see how Mothiba adapts to life back in the PSL and whether he can help propel the Brazilians to even greater heights.
