Lebohang Manyama Late Strike Maintains Kaizer Chiefs Advantage

Lebogang Manyama struck an injury-time winner to condemn Golden Arrows to their seventh loss of the season whilst Kaizer Chiefs further strengthened their grip on top spot in the Absa Premiership.

The 1-0 win sees Amakhosi extend their lead to 10 points over second-placed Mamelodi Sundowns (who now have a game in hand), while Abafana Bes’thende dropped to ninth place.

Ernst Middendorp stood in his 87th league game as a Chiefs coach going level with Steve Komphela on third on the list of Chiefs coaches who have stood in the most number of league games for the club in the PSL Era, only Stuart Baxter (90) and Muhsin Ertugral (161) have stood in more. Chiefs had scored at least one goal in 14 successive league games, this is the first time Chiefs have scored in 14 successive league games since the 2016-17 season. Chiefs have scored at least one goal in each of their 10 away league games this season. This was the 10th clean-sheet Chiefs have kept in their 19 league games this season. Chiefs are now undefeated in their last four league games (W3 D1). Chiefs have won all three of their league games this season when wearing their black 50th anniversary jersey. As a Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp has now won all three of his away league games against Arrows, he also defeated them in Durban in 2005-06 and 2006-07.

Against the run of play, Chiefs were headed for another disappointing draw after sharing the spoils with struggling Black Leopards last weekend only for Manyama to pounce three minutes into injury time to save Chiefs blushes.

Golden Arrows Zimbabwean forward Knox Mutizwa earning his 100th cap for Arrows, was the usual target of most of the hosts’ attacks but he did very little to offer any bother to Chiefs in a very subdued affair.
